Friday 25th November 22 - Autumn Term Issue 6

Headteacher Message

Since my last newsletter, Europe and Asia have had their class assemblies.  I was so impressed with the performances and it’s great to hear about everything the children have been learning.  We certainly have a talented group of children in school – well done to all.

Well done also, to our year 3 and 4 children who took part in a bowls competition last Tuesday.  Mrs James was very impressed with their team work.  Miss Byford is taking some keen KS1 footballers to a competition on Monday.  We also have a team of Year 5/6 children who are representing Great Waltham at the archery finals on Wednesday.  Good luck everyone.

Yesterday, myself and some governors attended the licensing service for Reverend Dan, the new vicar at St Mary and St Lawrence Church.  It was a lovely service and we are looking forward to working closely with him over the coming year.

Eco Christmas Hat Parade

This year our Christmas hat parade will take place on Monday 12th December.  The children will make their hats in the morning before parading them around the school hall for all to see.  In an aim to be more environmentally friendly we are asking that the hats are made up of recycled materials as much as possible, such as old Christmas decorations or cards.  Please can the children bring their materials into school with them on the 12th.

FOGWS

A huge thank you to all the members of the FOGWS who have been busy working behind the scenes over the past few weeks organising the Christmas Bazaar.  I will keep you updated on how much money they have raised for the children. If you would like to help organise future events, please do volunteer as we really appreciate it.

Facebook

Please don’t forget to follow the school on Facebook, I send out reminders about events such as non-uniform days - Here is the link: Facebook

Bird Area

A huge thank you to Sarah Whittaker-Axon for being our garden fairy. Sarah came into school over the weekend and cleared our wild bird area.  We really appreciate this and I’m sure the birds do to!

Drama Day at Broomfield - Lily M and Chloe C

These last few weeks have been very unique and today we will be interviewing Chloe C and Lily M as they went to another school (Broomfield Primary School) and danced and sung there.

We asked them if they had fun there and their response was:

"Yes it was great because the people who were there also had an interest in drama and acting like us".

Our second question we asked was what did you do there? They answered:

"When we first arrived we did some 'get to know you' games, then went on to rehearsing and piecing together the musical 'we will rock you' based on the music of Queen. Lily got a scene with a girl named Amber and Chloe got some narration with a girl called Molly".

Our last and final question for Chloe and Lily is how was their feelings before the show? They both responded with:

"Before the show we were all buzzing with excitement as all of our parents were attending to see us perform what we did in 5 hours but it was very nerve raking!"

Thank you Lily and Chloe for taking part in our interview and thank you to all who read our newsletter!

What Parents Need to Know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

The Call of Duty (CoD) series is a worldwide gaming phenomenon, with millions of copies sold every year. While 2021’s release, Vanguard, wasn’t quite as well received, this latest entry – Modern Warfare II – is proving to be hugely popular. A sequel to the recent Modern Warfare reboot (and not to be confused with the original Modern Warfare 2, from back in 2009), the game is an online shooter which features – unsurprisingly – extreme violence, rendered in realistic graphics. Amid the explosions and potential political nature of the plot, there’s much for parents to be aware of.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as offensive chat/messaging, in-game purchases and addiction.

What Parents Need to Know about TikTok

TikTok is a free social media platform that lets users create, share and watch short videos ranging anywhere from 15 seconds to 10 minutes in duration. The app gained notoriety for its viral dances, trends and celebrity cameos and can be a creative, fun platform for teens to enjoy. Now available in 75 languages, it has more than a billion active users worldwide (as of spring 2022) and is most popular with the under-16 age bracket. In fact, a 2022 Ofcom report found TikTok to be the most-used social media platform for posting content, particularly among young people aged 12 to 17.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as age-inappropriate content, dangerous challenges and contact with strangers.
