Headteacher Message
The first two weeks of the summer term have progressed smoothly enough, certainly closer to plan than the European Super League! One cannot wonder if that was one of 'Baldrick's' cunning plans! I suppose it made a change from Covid 19 or Brexit in the news.
We are in the second phase of the government's road map, I am sure many of you may have been happy to see 12 April arrive. I did a trail run in the Great Waltham area last Saturday that ended at the White Hart in Little Waltham. I think my last visit to a public house was October in Dorset when I visited my dad. It was good to be out with friends in the fresh air for sure.
We hope you found the parent consultations purposeful this week. If you experienced difficulties or missed your appointment, please contact the school office to rearrange. The children are to be commended for the way they have come back to school and readjusted to the full day of learning. Again, thank-you for supporting their learning at home. We know there will be gaps in skills and knowledge and the process to ensure these are filled is well underway. Next week, the first set of after school booster classes start to give the children from Y1-Y6 a helping hand with core skills. We will continue to monitor and assess the children's learning this term.
Seeing the children play on the grass again has been great - they benefit so much from the extra space and access to resources.
Is it quite amazing that we have only 11.5 weeks of the school year remaining! The hiatus from January-March has propelled us to the summer term. For our Y6 Leavers, they are on countdown to starting their new life in secondary school, the transition is very much beginning. We do hope the Y6 residential trip to Flatford Mill can go ahead as planned and the children have a great experience to aid their journey to increased independence.
At the younger end of the school, the EYFS children have been a credit to teach this year. It is amazing to think they have not yet experienced a whole school event! Hopefully, soon in Y1 they will.
FOGWS have circulated you all an update - the Smartie tube and egg decorating have proved successful and there is exciting news about our proposed running track.
Thanks for the kind messages of support for Mrs Moore at this very difficult time. Especially to the parents in Class Australia for the flowers - so very thoughtful.
Take care and have a good weekend.
Mr Burden
